The Game Development Business

Okay, I think the string of useful posts ends here. Now it's time to ramble on about my boring life.

Lately I've been reading up on game development stuff and the business. Richard and I have been planning to start on it for a while. Now the actual work is going to start. This is going to take a whole lot of time and energy.

All the stuff we want can't get made because the technology just isn't there (and we're not that good of programmers or designers in the first place). So we'll have to learn as we go along, but we don't have the resources to be able to do that. I can only live off my parents for so long before they kick me out of the house...

So anyway, from the looks of it, I'll be spending the next 10 years of my life trying to program and a game that would somehow generate money, but still follow an open source principal. Plus, there's the issue of how to incorporate the business overall. Richard's in California, and I'll probably still be in Texas. Should we do one company doing business between states or two companies partnering? I'll deal with that later.

So I'm working on tuning up the features list around a central theme. So far it's just game play stuff, great stuff, but building a story around game play features when we don't have those features yet is very bad process flow. If we had those features almost completed, then I'd be willing to build a story that emphasizes those points, but we don't. So, story takes the central point here...which means we'll need a story now.
